Local Attractions & Highlights Volcano Hawaii
Excellent quality and flavor of food. However, all 4 of our dinners arrived to the table barely warm, some of it cold. They made it right on the bill, though.
Volcano's Lava Rock Cafe
Good, reasonably priced food and friendly service. Next door to an amazing quilt shop. Kinda hidden behind a gas station, keep a sharp eye or you'll miss it...
Thai Thai Bistro and Bar
We got there 5 minutes before opening. We're standing outside in the cold and the girl there came an open the door for us! Wow amazing they are so pleasant! A beautiful restaurant and the food is absolutely perfect!!!! I wish I would have taken more pictures of the food but most of the pictures I took was of our family enjoying this beautiful place! We left full and happy content and ready to go back to the bed-and-breakfast we were staying at around the corner! We will be coming back! ????????????
Eagle's Lighthouse Cafe
What a great experience. Great sandwiches and plenty big. The German chocolate cake with macadamia nuts was to die for. As most have said the people who work there make the experience. The pastrami was great. I would’ve gone there for every meal if I could!!!
Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park
Absolutely breathtaking!! It was one of best experiences of my life. You see the beauty and great expanse of nature, untamed. And you feel how tiny you are in relation to the earth around you. It was simply amazing. I highly recommend it. Hopefully I can go back one day.
Amazing! The beach was so beautiful and exceeded my expectations. We saw a couple of turtles right in the beach as well. I can’t wait to come back to snorkel here!
Carlsmith Beach Park
This is a great spot for snorkeling and to see turtles! There are natural pools here made by surrounding volcanic rocks. It's a great place to bring family and children because it's not deep at all. A path and stairs have also been placed in certain spots so that you don't have to walk over sharp volcanic rocks to make it into the water. Would recommend to anyone visiting this island.
I visited earlier this year in February. I found it to be an beautiful walk and exquisite swim. I am heartened to see that the beach was not wiped out by volcano activity. I'll be back in two months and I plan to spend at least a day at this beach.
Papakōlea Green Sand Beach
We chose to park at the end of the paved road and hike to the beach. One way, this is about a 2.7 mile hike/walk. Do wear sturdy shoes, but this isn’t a strenuous hike. Go early to avoid crowds and the heat. This is a very windy part of the island, so come prepared! You’ll want a hat and sunglasses and lots of water with you, as this is a pretty remote location with no services available. However, it’s well worth the hike for the incredible views!
